Interior repentance is a radical reorientation of our whole life, a return, a conversion to God with our whole heart (CCC 1431).
Matthew 4:12-17, 23-25
Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand.
After Christ is presented to ‘the nations’ we hear him begin his preaching. The gospel always begins with the message of repentance, with the unpleasant and challenging task of facing up to our failures and sin. This is a crucial step of discipleship. Repentance and contrition is the way we know the joy and forgiveness of the Lord. Repentance is both the doorway and the path to life. Indeed it is the way into many sweet blessings and graces. The way through this door is by responding to the call of Jesus. We see his love, his generosity, his shining truth and, in contrast, our own failings. We see our sins in the wounds inflicted on our beloved Lord.
Holy Spirit, Lord Giver of Life, come to me as the Consoler who gives the human heart grace for repentance and conversion.
