It is in regard to death that the human condition is most shrouded in doubt (Gaudium et Spes 18).

Mark 6:45-52
Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.

Here is another manifestation of the Lord. The disciples face immediate danger in the midst of violent squall out on the Sea of Galilee.  Despite being seasoned fishermen they  were overwhelmed with fear and dread. They were convinced they were going to die.  As a society we avoid the subject of death. In a society in which little is taboo, death remains so. Yet death can only be understood in the light of Christ. Christ transformed death by embracing and conquering it. The jaws of death could not hold him. While death entered the world through one man, it is conquered by Jesus.  Jesus is the One who overcomes both sin and death. Our faith teaches us to proclaim: ‘For me to live is Christ and to die is gain!’ (Phil 1:21).

Lord, we praise your power over sin and death. Help me to live by this power, this new life, today.

Our Father…,   Ten Hail Marys …, Glory be…
