Bible Alive – A Time of Change

St John Henry Newman said: ‘To live is to change, and to be perfect is to have changed often.’ Of course, he is referring to the call of holiness and the interior life. However, change is necessary in all walks of life, especially in our ever changing world.

Since 1996 we have published Bible Alive 11 times a year but from September we will publish 6 times a year. The next edition of Bible Alive will contain the daily reflections for September and October and bi-monthly from then on. Increased print and postal costs, in addition to rising inflation make this decision inevitable and necessary. The Good News is we will continue to provide a Catholic Scripture magazine containing a commentary on one of the daily Mass readings for every day of the year as well as articles and features encouraging us to live our faith today.

Thank you for your support and understanding and please be assured of our dedication and commitment to providing you with high quality Catholic resources which inspire us to love God and serve our neighbour.

Alive Publishing is a Registered Charity (Charity No 298807) our Memorandum and Articles is explicit in stating that our goal, purpose and objective is to promote anywhere in the world the Christian faith through magazines, books and other resources.

Our two flagship publications, Bible Alive and Walk with Me have established themselves as recognized brands and as devotional resources which fulfil our mandate as a Catholic Charity. Bible Alive was launched in 1996, almost 30 years ago and Walk with Me, edited by Cardinal Vincent Nichols, is to celebrate its Silver Jubilee next year (Lent 2026).

The world has changed over a 25-30 year period but we have worked very hard to keep our prices competitive and attractive. Bible Alive costs £29.99 for 11 issues and Walk with Me £1. Parishes who order over 25 receive a 25% discount.

However, in recent years, a combination of factors, not least print and fulfilment (Royal Mail, UPS) have been relentless in applying above inflation increases which understandably is having an impact on the print and distribution of Bible Alive and Walk with Me.

In the light of this we have decided to publish Bible Alive bi-monthly starting with the September/October edition.

From September a subscription to Bible Alive will cost £34.99 (Ireland/Euro €46.99/£43.99, Rest of World £54.99) and Walk with Me will cost £1.50 and 99p for orders over 25.

We hope you understand the need for these changes and hope that receiving Bible Alive (which promotes the core objectives of the Charity) six times a year will be welcome and well received.

Bible Alive is less a magazine and more a Faith Family. Of course, our primary Faith Family is our own family and parish but Bible Alive has been committed for over 30 years to supporting and encouraging people in living their faith today.

In addition, through your kindness and generosity your support of our various outreaches is vital in the mission to spread the gospel and reach out to those on the margins (people in prison), but also missionaries, catechists and through the Cheerful Giver Fund anyone who is struggling and would benefit from receiving any of our resources, especially a subscription to Bible Alive.

Over the years of publishing Bible Alive we have learnt that whilst marketing campaigns are excellent the best and most effective way of marketing Bible Alive is word of mouth. This isn’t surprising since the Christian faith is very much rooted in witness and testimony. We are called to give the reason for our faith, hope and love but also our joy.

Our hope is that Bible Alive invites a daily encounter with Jesus through the Word of God.

A gift subscription to Bible Alive or a book such as Rebel Saints, Growing in Faith or Inspired bring relatives, friends and colleagues in touch with the truth, beauty and joy of the Christian message.

Furthermore, parishioners who take it upon themselves to promote Bible Alive at parish level are servants of God’s Word, encouraging and enabling fellow parishioners to draw from the deep wellspring of Sacred Scripture.

One of the joys of publishing Bible Alive is the encouragement we receive from our loyal readers. It is a honour and privilege to serve you.

On behalf of the Trustees and Staff thank you so much for your support, patience and understanding during this time of transition, change and transformation into a bright new future.
